Andy was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up in Glade Spring, Virginia, near the Appalachian Mountains. Interested in both artistic expression and scientific inquiry, he has devoted himself to studying and practicing both disciplines, striving towards truth and beauty in all aspects of his work.
In May 2025, Andy graduated with BAs in Music and Astronomy from the University of Virginia (UVA). Following his passion for music creation, he completed a Distinguished Majors Program (DMP), which focused on both choral conducting and composition.
Andy has a wide range of musical experiences, including conducting, choral performance, composing/arranging, and digital production.
From 2021-2024, Andy was the Music Director of UVA's rock a cappella group, The Flying V's; he arranged much of the group's music, conducted performances, and helped organize the group's musical activities. From 2023-2024, he studied conducting under his advisor, UVA's Director of Choral Music, Michael Slon. From 2024-2025, he studied composition with Professor Leah Reid as part of his DMP.
In addition to being a regular member of UVA's University Singers and Chamber Singers, some highlights of Andy's choral performances include: the Defiant Requiem, performed at the Strathmore Music Center in Bethesda, MD; Rachmaninoff's All Night Vigil, performed at Charlottesville's St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; and the North American premier performance of Ēriks Ešenvalds' St. Luke's Passion.
Andy also has significant experience with music production. In 2023, he was the recording engineer and producer for The Flying V's single release, The V's Go Big Time. Since 2019, he has released four albums of original punk-rock/alternative music. Each album was written, recorded, produced, and released entirely independently. The most recent record, Lost (2025), is a testament to his growth as an artist and songwriter, as well as a technically skilled producer.
Watch the full recording of Andy's senior recital here! It features five pieces conducted by him, two of which are original compositions ("As Leaves" at 20:20, and "Beauty of All" at 57:00) and one of which is an original arrangement ("Saturn" at 1:06:30).
I am open to many different projects, including commissions of small choral and/or chamber pieces.
Or hire me to produce your music! I am experienced in mixing and mastering songs for singer-songwriters and rock/alternative artists.
